Frequently Asked Questions

HmmmmmCuriousity is GOOD.

Hypnosis can seem a mysterious and even magical thing to those who are unfamiliar. Here is a collection of some of the more common questions I have received over the years, both about hypnosis, and about specific information regarding sessions. I hope I have answered your questions here, but please feel free to email with any additional questions you might have.

How long do sessions last?

This is depends on the practioner, but it is common for sessions to last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

The short answer - as many as it takes. Expect more than one session, but take it one session at a time and focus on results each session. I've been doing this work for long enough to tell you that there is no failure - only feedback. Often, people only need one or two sessions. Aim at getting you what you want EACH session. Then go out in the world, and test the results. If you got the complete and exact results you wanted - or even better - then you are done, and you go around telling everyone how great the experience was, and that's good for you - and quite frankly, good for the hypnosis business. Some practitioners may try to sell you a 'package' deal, and I would advise you to think carefully and make sure you are well informed prior to committing to multiple sessions. That said, most people will need more than one session for most things - and some people will need only one session to achieve seemingly miraculous results.

If you test the results and they are not what you want yet, then you come back and you know to change the approach, or do something different, or simply repeat the process to make it more complete. That means that how many sessions you need is based on you and your determination to get the exact results you want, as well as in part, how quickly you become a great hypnotic subject. Generally speaking, hypnosis and NLP are considered “brief therapy”, and clients usually need anywhere from 1 to 5 sessions for a specific goal.  I like to advise people to plan on allowing for at least two sessions, although sometimes a single session is all that is needed.

Does insurance cover hypnosis and NLP?

That depends on the insurance provider. Most practitioners do not bill insurance directly, although some do. Please check with your insurance provider for their specific requirements. Your practitioner should be able to provide whatever information your insurance company needs.

How much does a session cost?

The “going rate” for hypnosis sessions ranges from $100 for the standard 50 minute ‘hour’, to hundreds and even thousands of dollars for ‘package deals’. It is reasonable to expect to pay at least $100/hour or more.

Is hypnosis safe?

The hypnotic state itself is very safe, and in fact, really good for you. Hypnosis has been shown to benefit the body and mind in many ways similar to a full night's sleep. Hypnosis within the context of healing and personal development, etc, is also about the power of suggestion, and suggestions can take root in someone’s mind under MANY different circumstances. With any ethical practitioner, you have complete control over the hypnosis session. If you ever feel even remotely doubtful or ill at ease, you can end the session immediately. It is the practitioners' job to help you understand exactly what to expect, and how to ensure your own safety during the process.  There is not much safer than that.

Are you going to make me cluck like a chicken?

Only if you want to.

What is NLP?

NLP is short for NeuroLinguistic Programming.  Please see the NLP page for a more detailed answer.

Can I be hypnotized?

Yes.  Some people go into trance and accept suggestions very easily, and other people must develop a bit of skill, but everybody CAN be hypnotized.  In fact, ever person experiences some level of trance and suggestion (i.e. hypnosis) every day. It's just a matter of learning to use hypnosis with purpose and direction.

Will hypnosis work for ________?

Many people want to know whether hypnosis will help with their specific issue.  The answer is a resounding “Yes”.  Please feel free to email with specific questions regarding your individual concerns, but understand up front that the answer will always be “Yes, hypnosis can help.”  Can hypnosis CURE disease?  No – no hypnotist should EVER claim to cure.  Can hypnosis help the body heal?  Absolutely.  Can hypnosis help you feel better?  You bet.  Can hypnosis help you focus in the way you want, feel the way you want, enhance performance, increase skill, create confidence, relieve stress, release fear, etc, etc, etc?  YES.

Is Rowan Peacock still doing private sessions?

As many of my prior clients know, I have stopped seeing private clients on a regular basis. However, I will still occasionally help someone upon special request. If you would like to work with me, feel free to email. If we are a good fit and I have the time in my schedule, I may choose to work with you. If not, I would be happy to recommend a coach or hypnotherapist that may be able to help.

Important for you to know:
As hypnotherapy is not my primary business anymore, I am NO LONGER a registered hypnotherapist with the state of Washington, and I do not do "therapy". If you should choose to work with me, you will be entering into a coaching and consulting arrangement. During our meetings, I will employ NLP and communication methods borrowed from hypnotic communication and hypnotic methodology, but I will not be performing formal hypnosis, nor any hypnotherapy. We may choose to do some guided meditation to help you visualize your goals, etc., but this will not be therapy OR counseling, as it is defined by the state of Washington.
